WolfsBane

 Wolfman Reimaged

Werewolves are easily one of my favorite horror creatures, the themes of gluttony, rage and uncontrolled actions is just perfect for a terrifying creature ready to rip your throat out at any moment. Werewolves are known for their strength, unpredictability and love of the moon. They are creatures of the night, but not in the way that vampires are. They are cursed to be a host to an uncontrollable beast.

The Wolf Man(1941) is a tragic tale about a man cursed to be a werewolf after attempting to save a friend. In my reimaging of Wolfman, I want to spin the tale of werewolves in a bit of a different way.

Glam Metal was an extremely popular music genre in the 80s. Bands such as Motley Crue, Aerosmith, and Alice N' Chains made the genre iconic to the era and still loved by many today. Artist of the genre were often seen as hedonistic, high energy, and known for their extravagant party lifestyle.

For my take on wolfman, I want to show him with a 80s rocker/party boy personality, someone who redirects those wolf instincts into playing music and partying all night.

Research and Planning

For the wolfy aspects of my design, I want to lean into the fact that wolfman really looks more man than wolf. He is nearly covered in fur, but still has a human body and hands. I really like the more humanoid version of werewolves that have furry hands and claws, and big teeth, but are otherwise mostly human. I think this will fit the character as I had an idea where he got more wolf-like the more into performing he gets.

Wolfy Transformation ^^
For my 3D model I think I want to create the 2nd or 3rd character iteration. Probably a mix of the two.

For clothes I want to closely reference glam metal style, mostly referencing Motley Crue. I really like the look of a big leather jacket. So I want him to have a very mesomorph body shape. I really like the idea of having a shirt with an open chest because I'd love to give him chest hair. I need to explore some outfit combos I like before getting to much further into my process.

Worked on a some face concepts to help figure out what face structure I want to use in 3D. I think I'm going to go with the 3rd because I think his face will fit the rocker personality I plan for him. Also like the ear design of the first so I will shape them based on that design.

Final two design choices, I ended up going with #1 because I enjoyed how the jeans broke up the colors.

Sculpting

I started with focusing on the head and face for my first round of sculpting.

I focused on major forms and creating the outline of the body. He was looking really ugly though, and the face wasnt where I wanted it.

Still looking to do adjustments but, this is the completed face and body sculpt! I really want to make sure the face is how I want so I will likely revisit it.

Character Pose
Close-Up Adjusted Render
These were my first round of renders and posing. I went back to my character and focused on creating a more authentic to the character pose. I also redid my turnarounds just to keep them consistent with any small adjustments I may have made.

Simple Turn-Arounds

Small look at the character pose itself and the prop arrangement.

This is my final render with cinematic adjustments in Photoshop!
I really enjoyed this project and found the character design to be fun to work on especially as I think I met my goal of creating a unique and fun wolfman design.

I also created this Turn-Around of my character. Unfortunately I had some technically difficulties so I apologize for the lower quality.
